So how do you make holiday memories last?
Create new traditions!
On an unseasonably warm day two Decembers ago, my little sister and I set off on a mission: find as many over-the-top Christmas lawn decorations as possible in one afternoon. And take photos with each.
So, for one afternoon, we drove around and took turns grabbing pictures with giant inflatable snowmen, light up polar bears and Santa mannequins in random yards across our suburban town and posted the evidence on Instagram. This tradition is now known as #MerryRidiculousmas. It is now one of my favorite Christmas traditions. And TODAY is the day for #MerryRidiculousmas 2015. Follow along here!
Maybe trekking through yards in broad daylight isn’t your thing, but think outside the “gift box.” Hide Christmas ornaments around the house and declare a hunt. Make a scorecard for Christmas light displays and have your family serve as judges for the houses in your neighborhood. Then take a gift to the winning house. Research Christmas traditions in other countries and choose one to implement.
